BIJILO MONKEY FORREST

Just five minutes on foot from the Senegambia (tourist) area is Bijilo Monkey Forrest. Different types of monkeys can be seen here in the wild. For this trip you really don’t need to hire a guide from Boy Leigh.com as it is very easy to find and can very well be done on your own accord. On the way to Bijilo you will undoubtedly be approached by bumpsters who will want to sell you some peanuts for the monkeys. However at the entrance of the park there is a big notice board stating that feeding of the monkeys is strictly prohibited. At the park you can hire a park ranger, who will aks you if you have bought peanuts for the monkeys and that feeding is not permitted.

Once in the park that same ranger will explain to you that the monkeys won’t come closer as you don’t have any peanuts and that next time you really have to bring peanuts with you although the monkeys must not be fed….are you still with it?!

Neither were we!!

Beside monkeys you also find huge termite mounts in which also snakes reside as the mounts are nice and cool on the inside. So don’t go climbing these termite hills to make à nice photograph or something as it could very well be that you’ll disturb one of the resident snakes in its nap.

If you visit Bijilo in the rainy season you can run into enormous spiders with enormous webs. In the park there is à panaroma point where you can see the ocean and à little further is a sort of meadow where, if you’re lucky, you van watch troops of monkeys with their babies from up close.
