LAMIN LODGE

Hidden between the mangrove bushes lays the adventurous Lamin Lodge. In fact, it is hidden so well because the two storey building itself is completely made out of mangrove wood. This gives Lamin Lodge an exceptional appearance just like an enormous treehouse.

In fact this place is actually an oyster-farm but because of the wonderful scenery there is now also a lodge located here where you can order great food and drinks. The path to Lamin Lodge is made of crushed oystershells and big piles of shells lay alongside the path. Because oysters in The Gambia attach themselves to the roots of the mangroves the women go by low-tide onto the river to collect them daily. The oysters are first cooked before they’re consumed and the shells are used for roads. From Lamin Lodge you can make a fishing trip, go bird watching or just have a relaxing boat trip.
